Steps to Become a New or a Returning
Tax-Aide Client Facilitator
As you obtain your usernames and passwords for the following sites write them down immediately on your TY24 MY CONNECTIONS sheet:
Link and Learn where you take your tests to become certified
SignUpGenius where you sign up to work for Tax-Aide
Acuity where you make, change or delete appointments for taxpayers
STEP 2: If you have not already signed up to become an AARP volunteer:
- Click here to complete the application process on the AARP website
- Enter your AARP user name and password
- If you have never registered for AARP, click on the “Create Account” link
- Then enter your email address twice, your password, your name, zip code, birthday, the security challenge, yes to the User Agreement and select the Register link
- Then complete and submit the Tax-Aide Volunteer Application that appears
STEP 3: Sign up for the in-person training at Colony Cottage Recreation Center
- New Client Facilitators: either Tuesday, January 14, 2025 or January 21, 2025 from 9 am to 4 pm,
- Returning Client Facilitators: either Thursday, January 16, 2025 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm OR January 23, 2025 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm in the Hearth Room
- OPTIONAL: Additional Practice Session on Monday, January 27, 2025 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm in the Keeping Room.
STEP 4: Sign up to work on SignUpGenius
STEP 5: Prepare for the IRS Standards of Conduct quiz and the Intake/Quality Review quiz
STEP 6: All Client Facilitators, including returning CFs, must create a new username and password.
- Click HERE to go to the “Create an Account” page on the Link and Learn website
- Fill in the boxes that appear on the “Create an Account” screen
- It is recommended that you use the same email address that is on your AARP account
- After you select the Continue button at the bottom of the page a second screen will appear
- For Training Source, select Link and Learn (E-learning)
- Answer NO to the question “Are you an instructor?”
- Answer NO to the question “Are you an IRS SPEC Territory Manager?”
- After you select the Continue button at the bottom of the page a third screen will appear
- Select “TCE-AARP volunteer”
- After you select the Save button the Link and Learn home page will appear
STEP 7: Take the Standards of Conduct quiz and the Intake/Quality Review quiz (available 11/25/2024).
- When you have reviewed the above materials and are ready to take the quizzes, click here
- On the home page that appears under the “2024 VITA/TCE Certification Test” title click on the blue “Take Certification test” button
- On the “Certifications” page that appears click on the “02 – Advanced” button
- On the “02-Advanced” page that appears click on the “Volunteer Standards of Conduct – Test” Start button and take the test
- When you return to the “02-Advanced” page click on the “Intake/Interview and Quality Review – Test” Start button and take that test
- DO NOT TAKE the “Advanced – Test” (Counselors take the Advanced test)
STEP 8: Sign and deliver the Volunteer Standards of Agreement form to the CF Coordinator
- Once you have successfully completed both tests, click on the blue “Sign Form 13615” button at the bottom of your home page
- Review the Volunteer Agreement for accuracy
- Type in “AARP-Villages Tax-Aide” in the Sponsoring partner name/site name box
- Select the total number of years that you have volunteered, including this year
- Skip the Professional Designation box
- The Volunteer Position checked should be “TCE-AARP Volunteer”
- Check “I agree to sign form 13615 Volunteer Agreement electronically”
- Click on “Sign Form” box at the bottom
- Click on “Download signed form” box on the next screen that appears
- Start an email to your CF Coordinator at jackieschibline@gmail.com
- In the Subject line type in your name and “13615 Form”
- Attach a copy of your 13615 Volunteer Agreement to the email by:
- Clicking on the paper clip icon
- Browsing to the “Downloads” folder on your computer or device
- Adding/Selecting your Volunteer Agreement PDF file in the “Downloads”
- Send the email
STEP 9: Complete the required on line courses that are located on the AARP portal
- Click here to access the 2 mandatory on line courses on the Volunteer Portal
- You MUST use a computer to successfully access the on line courses on the AARP portal. A tablet device, such as an iPad, will not work.
- Once you are see your home page of the volunteer portal, then select the “Training” option on the Menu Bar at the top of the page.
- You can access each of the on line courses by clicking on the appropriate box located near the bottom of the page
- Complete the AARP Policies and Procedures TY2024 FIRST
- Complete the AARP Technology and Security TY2024 SECOND
- Complete the AARP Tax-Aide Reimbursement for Volunteers TY 2024 – OPTIONAL
STEP 10: Attend the in-person training at Colony Cottage Recreation Center
